In “Message to My Freshman Students,” Keith Parsons describes the differences and changes his students will need to make in order to be successful through his class and other college classes. Parsons acknowledges that his students are not adapted to his style of teaching or of being on their own, discovering their interests. Because of this, Parsons writes what he will be telling his students next semester. He deeply expresses the idea that “learning is your job.” One of the main differences between high school and college is the teachers. Some professors, like Parsons, believe in students putting in more effort outside of the classroom, since the students are paying to gain knowledge. Parsons believes his students should be driven to take his class not just because they want a degree, but to flourish in new information that interests them. |
